“Bird Lives” @ SWR Big Band – German Tour

Charlie Parker, known as “Bird”, was one of the first bebop artists to perform with a jazz orchestra. The newness of the context allowed Bird’s beautiful tone and lyricism to have more textural possibilities. Stuttgart’s SWR Big Band –with stellar arrangers John Beasley and Magnus Lindgren– present modern reimaginations from Bird’s repertoire to introduce new generations to Charlie Parker’s timeless music.

SWR Big Band will perform Bird’s tunes from the critically acclaimed “Bird Lives” album, which earned three GRAMMY nominations and a GRAMMY win for John Beasley’s arrangement of “Scrapple from the Apple/Ah-Leu-Cha”. The music on “Bird Lives” is lush, poetic, and swinging as hell.

21st century jazz innovators, Camille Bertrault, Jacob Manz, Emma Rawicz will be guest artists to add their unique musical statements.
