Charlie Parker “Bird Lives” ~ SWR Big Band w Chris Potter – Jazz Festival am Mäuseturm
June 18, 2022 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
SWR Big Band “BIRD LIVES”
Co-arrangers: Magnus Lindgren (MD), John Beasley & Special Guest Chris Potter
Charlie “Bird” Parker shaped modern jazz like no other. To this day, his music continues to influence jazz musicians around the world. And Charlie Parker would have been 100 years old in 2020. That was the actual starting point for the SWR Big Band ‘s “BIRD LIVES” project together with the co-arrangers Magnus Lindgren and John Beasley , who received his first Grammy as an arranger in spring 2021 .
The way in which Lindgren and Beasley rethought and reinterpreted Parker’s music with the SWR Big Band shows just how alive Parker’s musical legacy is. At the same time, they fulfill Parker’s dream of an orchestral production and stylishly carry his musical legacy into the 21st century.
Saxophone legend Chris Potter has been delighting critics and fans alike with his powerful sound, unbridled creativity and effortless virtuosity for more than two decades.
The SWR Big Band has been nominated for a Grammy four times and received the German Jazz Award in Gold in 2015 .
With so much fame, it can be said modestly: with the SWR Big Band, Magnus Lindgren, John Beasley and Chris Potter, an all-star project is presented at the JAM Festival on all levels!
